Mr. Tatehata has been serving as director of the National Museum of Art, Osaka since 2005. Previously he taught at the Tama Art University, Tokyo as professor who specialized in the study of modern and contemporary art after serving at the National Museum of Art, Osaka as curator for fifteen years. He was appointed as Artistic Director for the Yokohama Triennale 2001 and Japanese Commissioner for La Biennale di Venezia in 1990 and 1993. He also attended at the Columbia University, New York as guest researcher from 1992 to 1993. In addition to that, Mr. Tatehata plays an active role as a poet. In this field, he was awarded the Takami Jun Prize for his work “Reido no Inu” in 2005, and the Rekitei Prize to promising new poet for “Yohaku no Runner (Runners in the Margins)” in 1991. Also he published English collected poems “Runners in the Margins”, 2003.
