WAGO RYOICHI (Japan)

Wago Ryoichi was born in 1968, in the northern city of Fukushima, where he currently teaches high school. Ten years ago he co-founded a poetry magazine called Kazari chimaki, as well a group for dramatic poetry readings called "Jam." Many of his poems have appeared in the modern poetry magazine Gendaishi techo. In 1993, he was awarded the Fukushima Prefecture Literary Prize for poetry, and in 1996 he was the youngest delegate to the World Poetry Convention, held in Gunma Prefecture. He has performed poetry readings throughout Japan, and recently wrote the lyrics for two modern operas. His first book of poems, AFTER, was published in Japan in 1998. His second collection, titled Rainbow, was published in 1999. His third collection, titled Tanjyo, was published in 2002.
